Ski & Snowboard with Stay & Play Packages

Barrie & Area is on Ontario’s snowbelt region which makes it the perfect place to enjoy the slopes or the cross-country ski trails. The Winterfun Stay & Play packages are the perfect option for planning your Family Day getaway to Barrie. The fun just starts with skiing and snowboarding. Tubing packages are also available

Tiffin Nature Festival: Winter Edition on Family Day at the Tiffin Conservation Area

The Tiffin Conservation Area is back with the annual Family Day event which is full of great family-friendly outdoor activities. Enjoy snowshoeing, kicksledding, skating on “Papa Bear Pond” (bring your own skates and helmets!), a winter scavenger hunt, hiking, and more! Warm up by the outdoor fire and enjoy hot dogs and hot chocolate from local Scouts & Guides.

Ice Skating throughout the City of Barrie – Various locations!

The Holly Rec Centre (12:30-5:00pm), East Bayfield (12:30-5:00pm), and the Allandale Rec Centre (12:00-3:00pm) are offering free public skating! Lace up your (and your kids’) skates and get out on the ice. You might even meet some of the Barrie Colts players if you keep your eyes peeled for their special appearances. Don’t forget that skating is also (always) free at City Hall’s Circle at the Centre (10:00am-10:00pm) as well as the other City of Barrie outdoor rinks including Eastview Park, Lampman Lane Park, Centennial Beach, and Shear Park.

Get Artsy at the MacLaren Art Centre

The MacLaren Art Centre has fun family art-making workshops planned for Family Day this year! Take a tour of the museum at 1:00pm and view all of the amazing exhibitions (don’t miss the snow sculptured walnut!), enjoy the food, drinks, and yummy treats at the Radio Café, and then join in on the fun of arts and crafts from 1:30-3:00pm to create a beautiful masterpiece.

Swing Your Club at Barrie Sports Dome or Putt Mini Golf

If you and your family are frequent golfers, we’re sure you miss the feel of swinging your club and the sound of it hitting a golf ball. Well, you’re in luck this Family Day! Head to The Barrie Sports Dome and hit a bucket of balls on the “driving range” with your family (you can share the cost by taking turns hitting the ball). Consider teaching your young kids how to golf, too. You can start by trying Putt Mini Golf (glow-in-the-dark!) located in the south end of Barrie.

Go Ice Fishing on Kempenfelt Bay

Start your Family Day weekend off right and take part in the 10th Annual Ice Fishing Tournament on Kempenfelt Bay on February 13, 2016. Hosted on the lake just outside of the Southshore Centre, you can make joining in on the fun a great activity for the whole family. A fishing license is not required from February 13-15, 2016, due to the Family Fishing Weekend. Alternatively or as well, you can ice fish on Kempenfelt Bay (weather dependent) at your leisure with the proper licences. Don’t miss out on the great restaurants and cafés located Downtown Barrie to warm up after your day out on the frozen lake!

Horseshoe Resort Winter Adventures

Horseshoe Resort has tons in store for you this Family Day. Aside from their fantastic ski hills and trails (both downhill and cross-country), Horseshoe Resorts boasts all kinds of adventures and activities for the whole family. From snow tubing and fat biking to snowshoeing, skating, and snowmobile rides, boredom isn’t a thought you’ll have this winter at Horseshoe Resort.

Kempenfelt Community Players Present Mary Poppins!

Come on out and start your family fun the day before to see Mary Poppins on stage at the Mady Centre in Downtown Barrie. One of the most popular Disney films of all time, Mary Poppins is here to capture yours and your kids’ hearts in its new Broadway musical format. “Anything can happen if you let it” this Family Day weekend with Mary Poppins.

Spend Your Day Outdoors at the Simcoe County Museum

Does your family love challenges and exploring the outdoors? Simcoe County Museum is back with the 7th annual Family Day Extravaganza. Get ready to compete in their wide-range of activities (or to participate at your own pace). A snowshoe challenge, a toboggan competition, and a game of Snowsnake, originally a First Nations’ tradition, are just three of the great activities that you can do this Family Day at the Simcoe County Museum. Lunch and snacks are available for purchase.
